Bolsover is a bustling and busy market town with a rich heritage and plenty going on – making it a great choice for house buyers looking for a new home in Derbyshire.

It’s a growing town, with a population of around 80,000, but has retained the unique charm and character which makes it such a great place to live.

Its most striking feature is Bolsover Castle, an English Heritage property and Stuart era mansion that offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside from the restored wall walk. The venue plays host to a variety of events all year including storytelling, exhibitions, and re-enactment days.

The Derbyshire town was granted its first market charter by Henry III in 1225. Today, the market operates in town every Tuesday and Friday. Plus, there is a monthly artisan market which is held on the first Saturday of the month, offering an array of food and crafts.

With independent shops and high street chains, there is a lot of variety whether you’re browsing or looking for something specific. For your regular supermarket shop there’s a Morrisons on Oxcroft Lane.  And for something a bit different, visit Old Bolsover Yard at the back of 2 Castle Street, behind the Coffee Cup café. It’s home to some new creative businesses.

After your shopping, why not try out one of the local cafes, such as the Euphoria Bistro at Town End or The Pump, which is a tearoom in a renovated 18th Century cottage on the Market Place.

Bolsover is well placed for getting around as it’s only four miles from junction 29A of the M1. It’s also only a 20-minute drive from Chesterfield railway station, which has direct services to London, Nottingham, Sheffield, and Leeds.

There are good schools in the area such as The Bolsover School on Mooracre Lane, which is a secondary school and part of the Redhill Academy Trust.

The town has an array of clubs and groups catering for a wide variety of hobbies and interests. Bolsover Camera Club meets every Friday at Bainbridge Hall. St Sebastian Archers, which is based at Bolsover Town Football Club fields, has members that shoot for fun or competition, and it prides itself on its friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Bolsover and District Cycling Club offers a range of activities including cycle speedway and mountain biking. Bolsover Drama Group is one of Derbyshire’s largest amateur dramatic groups and puts on four shows a year and has a youth section too.

There are also plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy the countryside. On the outskirts of the town is Carr Vale Nature Reserve. It is a wetland reserve that attracts many bird species throughout the year including wigeon, finches, buntings and water rail.

Poolsbrook Country Park is just a 15-minute drive away and includes walks, woodlands and lakes, sand play areas for children, and four miles of trails for cycling, horse riding and walking. Refreshments are available at The Coffee Stop Café in the Pavilion.

Don’t just take our word for it...

Here are just a few examples of customer feedback and reviews we have received at this development.

Staff at Jones Homes demonstrated excellent communication and patience during our buying process when it took longer than we planned due to issues within our chain. Prior to moving in, the handover meeting was clear and detailed and we were encouraged to ask questions if we had any. We received a very warm welcome on the day we moved in to our new home. Since moving in, any snagging issues so far have been either looked into and / or dealt with promptly. We have found all staff / builders we have come into contact with, extremely approachable and understanding, in particular Jas (in the Sales Office), Carl (Site Manager) and Brandon (Assistant Site Manager) have all been very helpful indeed and continue to be so. As for the site, we love the style of properties Jones Homes build especially as they put emphasis on the look of the houses and gardens, even planting shrubs in the front gardens to enhance the look of the estate.

I have just moved into a Jones Homes property on Cavendish Park Bolsover and must report on the premium service that both the sales advisors “Jas Khaira & Lyndsey Morton” have provided me along this journey. Nothing has been too much trouble for both of them whenever I needed any information or advice, always with a smile and warm welcome and a wave when I walk past the office. Massive thx to both of them for going the extra mile and the house is awesome by the way

The support from the first day right up until completion to post snagging from the sales and site team at Cavendish park was nothing short of amazing. Carl, Jaz and Lindsay were always there to answer any questions and ensure we were comfortable and reassured throughout buying out property. The effort and pride taken by the site team to create our beautiful home is exceptional. The team didn’t stop on the day of completion, supporting us when times were tough as a family, making us feel welcomed and at home on the estate. Thank You!

We met Jas at Cavendish Park today. Even though we weren’t intending to buy from that development, Jas was so helpful, informative and went out of her way to help us as much as she could. Thank you Jas, excellent service

Moved in 10 weeks ago! Couldn't have asked for a better service. Jas and Lyndsey looked after us brilliantly whilst buying, selling and moving in and always on hand if we needed advice and/or a cup of tea. Site manager Carl personally took responsibility of any issues we had with the house, of which there were less than 10 in total and delegated tasks to different tradespeople, always a happy chappy and literally could not do more to help us with anything we needed, things take a little time sometimes but we are always informed about timescale so its never a problem. We love our new home and neighbourhood and the Jones Homes team are still on hand if we need anything. I think we would struggle to find a more knowledgeable, kind, and down to earth team who have made a very stressful move (due to solicitors) the best it can possibly be. Thank you!
