Westwood Park Community Focus

The new Westwood Park development in Lenham has become a thriving neighbourhood with a friendly community feel.

Most of the properties at the 70-home development being built by Jones Homes off Ham Lane have now been sold, and the new residents have been getting to know each other and making the most of their surroundings.

Rosie and Luke Crumley moved to Westwood Park from Cornwall to buy their first home together – a four-bedroom detached house – after previously living in Rosie’s house in Bude.

Shortly after they moved in last year, Rosie said: “We’ve started exploring the village which is really pretty and everyone we’ve met has been friendly. I’ve particularly enjoyed going to the country market each month which has a great range of stalls.”

Buying a house at Westwood Park represented something of a homecoming for Andy Ford, as the development is close to his old secondary school.

Andy, his wife Tracy, and his stepdaughter Jazz upsized from their old two-bedroom cottage in nearby Detling into a four-bedroom house in December 2021 and immediately felt at home.

“I know the area and village well as I went to school there and have happy memories of the place,” said Andy.

The couple are keen walkers and love the fact they live within easy reach of the North Downs and the Pilgrim Way – an ancient pathway to Canterbury.

“When we are not heading to the great outdoors, the village itself is a short walk away and has just about everything you could want. There are two pubs which both serve good food, tea rooms, a café, a Co-op, a bakery and a fish and chip takeaway and restaurant.”

Jones Homes is keen to encourage a strong sense of community and has made links with nearby Lenham Nursery School. The homebuilder ran a competition to mark the coronation of King Charles in May, asking the children to draw pictures of the royal family.

Westwood Park is also providing benefits for the wider community, with a financial investment of £290,000 being made in local services and infrastructure by Jones Homes as part of the planning agreement for the development. This includes £140,000 on primary school places, £60,000 for the creation of green open space and £55,000 for healthcare.

A selection of four-bedroom houses in a variety of styles are still available to purchase at Westwood Park, with prices starting from £585,000.

The homebuilder’s Agency Assist scheme is available at the development. This helps buyers sell their existing home with Jones Homes appointing an independent agent and holding the buyer’s chosen property for eight weeks while it helps market their old home. Jones Homes liaises with the estate agent and pays up to £3,000 towards the estate agent fees.
