Cub scouts to take part in drawing competition to depict coronation

A housebuilder has organised a right royal drawing competition for youngsters in the 6th Congleton Cub Scouts.

Jones Homes, which is building new properties at its Westlow Heath development off Manchester Road in Congleton, asked the children in the group to depict what the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May means to them.

The winning Cub Scout, Dexter Tyrer Gibbs aged nine, was presented with an annual family pass for the National Trust.

Phil Newcombe, leader of the 6th Congleton Cub Scouts, said: “We currently have 28 cubs in our group with an additional 40 members in other age sections (Beavers & Scouts), this has grown from a total group membership of nine in 2020.

“Through its award scheme, cubs offers a structured approach to offering youngsters challenges that they may not come across through their normal school careers. This offers outdoor experiences and team-building opportunities that really do help build #SkillsForLife.

“The competition certainly got the cubs thinking about castles and what might be contained within. As a part of the overall coronation, it will have certainly added another element to the celebrations.

“The cubs were excited to find out the winner, there were quite a few members who have expressed an interest in exploring Cholmondeley castle with their own families, as a result.”
