Jones Homes donates vouchers to help children at Bromley Cross school celebrate World Book Day

Jones Homes has found a novel way of helping a school in Bromley Cross celebrate World Book Day on March 2.

The housebuilder has donated £155 to pay for book tokens for all 31 pupils in Year 5 at St John the Evangelist RC Primary School in Darwen Road.

The developer is building 57 new homes at The Grange at Last Drop Village, which is less than half a mile from the school.

Catherine Wilding, a sales advisor at the Jones Homes development, located off Hospital Road, visited the school to deliver the £5 vouchers.

Lesley Jackson, Headteacher at the school, said: “We are really grateful to Jones Homes for supporting St John the Evangelist RC Primary School and it was lovely to welcome Catherine to the school so she could present the book tokens to the pupils in our Year 5 class.

“Reading plays a vital role in children being able to access the whole of the curriculum, as well as helping to nurture empathy and imagination. This donation will help the pupils continue to develop their reading skills – and enjoy new stories.”

Simon Whalley, Sales Director at Jones Homes North West, said: “As a socially responsible developer Jones Homes strives not only to deliver much-needed new homes but also to form meaningful relationships within the local community.

“World Book Day is a fabulous event which has been going strong since it was created 28 years ago by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and we are happy to be able to support our local school celebrate the day.

“We hope that the vouchers we have given will help the children at St John the Evangelist Primary School buy a new book and be transported by the written word into a magical world of stories and amazing characters. The ability to read and write with confidence is the cornerstone of any education and we are proud to be able to help these children along that road.”
