Jones Homes Southern appoints new Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead team

Jones Homes Southern has appointed a senior quantity surveyor who has 37 years’ experience in the construction industry.

Adrian Hall now leads the regional surveying team based at Jones Homes’ South East headquarters in Swanley, Kent.

Adrian, who left Thames Polytechnic with a HND in civil engineering in 1981, started his career in the industry on the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic.

He said: “It was 1985 and three years after the Falklands War against Argentina had ended and there was a process underway to construct a new airport and associated military base and infrastructure.  I took a job as a site engineer on the project to build a new road from the capital Port Stanley to the new airport at Mount Pleasant.

“It was a year-long contract and I was quite happy when I finally got back to the UK. But it was an experience that I would not have missed as it is a far-flung part of the world I would not have travelled to.”

Adrian, who lives in Bexhill-on-Sea, returned to the UK where, over the years, he took on a number of roles with different companies within the construction industry including senior surveyor, senior quantity surveyor and commercial manager.

“During a four-year period as a senior quantity surveyor with a building company between 2000 and 2004, we worked with Jones Homes on a small development in Blackheath in London,” he said. “It was during that project that I learned why Jones Homes had a reputation within the industry as builder of high-quality houses.

“The attention to detail, top specification and quality of finish were second to none and at a level I had not encountered during my many years in the construction industry. This is what has drawn me to this new position at Jones Homes.

“My role is to lead a young surveying team and to oversee the commercial department.

This will see me monitor the work of the team, mentor them when necessary and help provide any future training they require.

“As we go forward, I will be helping evaluate the build cost of house types which will determine how much we should pay for a plot of land on which we plan to deliver a new development.
